Yonkers, NY (June 2025) – On Friday, June 6, children at the Family Health Center at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center were treated to a special morning of stories, courtesy of 25+ volunteers from the accounting firm Deloitte as part of Deloitte Impact Day, spearheaded by Reach Out and Read of Greater New York’s Board member Jenny Gilmore. Volunteers read aloud to the children and helped create a joyful, engaging environment that supports early literacy and family connection.
The morning was full of books and treats—all part of a special Deloitte Volunteer Day event. Deloitte employees gathered in the waiting room at the Family Health Center to read stories and hand out goody bags filled with books, crayons, coloring books, and bubbles to young children (ages 0-5 years old). Through the generosity of Reach Out and Read of Greater NY and Deloitte, the waiting area was transformed into a bright, welcoming space equipped with a new children’s table and chairs and wall decals.
The event was part of a Reach Out & Read of Greater New York initiative. Reach Out and Read prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to “prescribe” books and encouraging families to read together. Reach Out & Read of Greater New York provides books and training to over 230 programs in predominantly low-income communities.
Deloitte’s Volunteer Day initiative reflects St. Joseph’s Medical Center’s commitment to early childhood development, community outreach, and collaborative partnerships that enrich the lives of Yonkers residents.
“This event was a wonderful opportunity to welcome children, families, and community members into our Family Health Center and to promote literacy,” said Elizabeth Joglar, MSW, Director of Ambulatory Services & School Based Health Program at Saint Joseph’s Family Health Center. “We were thrilled to team up with Deloitte and Reach Out & Read to make this event a success.”
