Alexandra was raised in a small town along the Danube River in Romania. She earned her medical degree from Universitatea de Medicină și Farmacie in Timișoara, where she developed a strong foundation in patient-centered care and a passion for community health.

After relocating to California, Alexandra became involved in providing care to underserved populations, dedicating her time and energy to bridging the gap in access to healthcare for uninsured and economically disadvantaged patients. Her work in California reaffirmed her commitment to social medicine and health equity.

Now based in New York, she is excited to begin the next chapter of her medical journey as a resident, with a continued focus on serving marginalized communities and advocating for accessible care.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys reading, painting, and exploring video games.

Adriana Argudo, MD

Adriana Argudo, MD

Medical School: Universidad de Cuenca Facultad de Ciencias Médicas

Adriana, a first-generation physician, was born in New York and raised in Cuenca, Ecuador. She earned her medical degree from the Universidad de Cuenca in 2018, where she developed a strong commitment to providing equitable, compassionate care to underserved populations. After graduating from medical school, Adriana returned to the United States to pursue her residency training, drawn by the country’s advanced medical education and technology. Motivated by a lifelong dream to serve her community, she initially worked as a medical assistant in a family medicine practice and later at an assisted living facility. These experiences deepened her understanding of patient care across the lifespan and strengthened her dedication to primary care and geriatrics.

Her clinical interests include community health, chronic disease prevention, and improving access to care for vulnerable populations. She is fluent in Spanish and English, and also has a basic knowledge of Italian. She values culturally sensitive communication and strives to build meaningful, lasting relationships with her patients. In the future, she plans to pursue a fellowship in Geriatrics to further advocate for the well-being and dignity of older adults.

In addition to her medical training, Adriana holds a diploma in music and guitar, which she studied for seven years during her childhood and adolescence. Music remains an important part of her life. Outside of medicine, Adriana is married and enjoys spending time with her daughter. She loves attending concerts, reading, traveling, and exploring new places with her family. Her Catholic faith continues to guide her personally and professionally, grounding her approach to medicine with purpose and compassion.

Iqra Aziz, MD

Medical School: Quaid – e – Azam Medical College

Iqra was born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan, and earned her medical degree from Quaid-e-Azam Medical College. During medical school, she developed a strong interest in comprehensive, patient-centered care. To broaden her clinical perspective and better understand the diverse needs of patients, Iqra participated in a range of volunteer clinical experiences across both Pakistan and the United States. These experiences deepened her passion for family medicine and reinforced her commitment to holistic, continuity-based care. In addition to English, Iqra is fluent in Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi, which allows her to connect with patients from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Iqra’s future goals include exploring fellowship opportunities in pain medicine and emergency medicine to further expand her clinical skills and continue serving underserved communities with compassion and expertise. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, traveling throughout the U.S., and pursuing her newfound passion for whitewater rafting.

Luis R. Gómez Ortiz, MD

Born and raised in rural Puerto Rico, Luis has shown to be a resilient, compassionate physician with a heart set on transforming primary care. Inspired at age six by his mother, a nurse in training, he dreamed early of healing others. That dream deepened over the years as he witnessed the harsh realities of healthcare access and motivated him to advocate for a more humane, equitable system.

A first-generation doctor, Luis faced the challenges of medical school, while navigating a diversity of natural, and political disasters affecting Puerto Rico. Still, he thrived, especially during a formative rural Family Medicine clerkship that confirmed his passion for primary care. Since graduating, he’s expanded his skillset through administrative roles and clinical rotations, always keeping patient advocacy at the center of his work.

Luis brings with him not only clinical acumen and cultural competence but also an unwavering commitment to doing well because for him, medicine isn’t just a career, it’s a calling.

In his spare time he enjoys collecting memories be it spending time in nature, or discovering new venues and hearing stories from those he meets.

Nayna Islam, MD

Nayna was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and raised in Queens, New York. At 18, she returned to Bangladesh to reconnect with her roots and earn her medical degree from Ibn Sina Medical College, becoming the first physician in her family. She later worked as a general physician in Bangladesh before returning home to New York to continue her training.

She is drawn to Family Medicine for its emphasis on long-term relationships and whole-person care. Nayna values the opportunity to support patients through all stages of life with compassion and continuity. Outside of medicine, she enjoys cooking, painting, and spending time with her husband and daughter—both of whom keep her positive, focused, and deeply motivated.

Sahil Kaushal, MD

Sahil was born and raised in Hoshiarpur, India, where he was inspired early on by his parents, both dedicated doctors. Watching them care for their community sparked his love for medicine and a strong desire to serve others. Sahil went on to earn his medical degree from Anhui Medical University in China, an experience that deepened his appreciation for diverse cultures and communities.

After graduating, Sahil returned home to work as a primary care provider while also volunteering with a charity that offered preventive screenings and care to underserved areas. Sahil is passionate about preventive medicine, patient education, and building lasting relationships with the people he cares for. He’s excited to be part of the Saint Joseph’s family and looks forward to growing both personally and professionally during his time here. When he’s not at work, Sahil enjoys playing sports, spending time with his family and friends, traveling, exploring new cuisines, and watching the latest movies.

Tamanna Khanam, MD

Tamanna was born and raised in Bangladesh. She graduated from a tertiary level care Medical College in Bangladesh. Tamanna brings a wealth of global medical experience to the U.S. where she served as a House Physician at a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in New York for almost 2 years. She has a deep passion for providing compassionate, patient-centered care, especially to the underserved population with a main focus on educating patients about preventive care.

Throughout her career, Tamanna has been recognized for her empathy, leadership, and commitment to medical excellence. Her journey in medicine has been shaped by both clinical practice and personal experiences, including serving diverse communities and overcoming life-changing challenges with resilience and grace. She is fluent in multiple languages and has a deep appreciation for cultural diversity, making her especially effective in patient communication and advocacy.

Outside of medicine, Tamanna is a proud mother of two daughters. She enjoys spending her free time traveling with family, exploring new cultures, crafting, and reading books with her children.

Frantz Ricot Martine, MD

Frantz was born and raised in Haiti, where his passion for medicine was inspired at an early age by his father, a dedicated elementary school teacher with basic healthcare training who often cared for people in remote communities. Watching his father serve others sparked Frantz’s interest in healthcare, and as a child, he even performed simple wound dressings when his father was unavailable. This early exposure solidified his desire to pursue a career in medicine.

After graduating from high school, Frantz enrolled in Universite d’Etat d’Haiti Faculte de Medecine et de Pharmacie and became a licensed physician. He then worked as a general practitioner for a year and a half, caring for patients with a wide range of health conditions. After relocating to the United States, Frantz continued his journey in healthcare, first as a licensed practical nurse and later as a registered professional nurse. His experience working with patients of all ages and diverse backgrounds deepened his commitment to Family Medicine, a field where he can combine his clinical skills with his passion for compassionate, holistic care. In his free time, Frantz enjoys watching soccer and basketball, spending quality time with his children, and going out with his family or simply relaxing at home.

Martina Turroja, MD

Dr. Martina Turroja was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From a young age, she developed a strong interest in medicine, particularly in improving healthcare access for underserved communities in her city. This passion ultimately led her to pursue a career in medicine.
While attending medical school, Dr. Turroja began teaching at the Department of Human Immunology at the University of Buenos Aires. There, she developed a growing interest in education and research. After earning her medical degree, she continued her postgraduate training in Argentina before being accepted at The Rockefeller University in New York City, where she completed four years of postdoctoral training in clinical investigation at the Laboratory of Molecular Immunology.

With a multicultural background—being of Italian and Spanish descent and raised in Argentina—Dr. Turroja would like to bring a global perspective and a culturally sensitive approach to patient care. She aspires to become a comprehensive family physician who delivers compassionate, preventive care throughout all stages of life. Her goal is to ensure that her patients receive the highest-quality care grounded in the most recent scientific discoveries and evidence-based medicine.

Beyond clinical care, Dr. Turroja aims to support and empower her patients, promote healthcare equity, and inspire the next generation of medical professionals through education, mentorship, and advocacy.

Nausheen Zafar, MD

Nausheen Zafar, MD

Medical School: Rawalpindi Medical College

Nausheen was born and raised in Pakistan and attended Rawalpindi Medical College. Her passion for medicine led her to pursue residency training in the United States. She has worked as a Research Assistant at Northwestern University on an NIH-funded study, supporting the development of a cohort investigating cardiovascular disease risk factors in South Asian young adults. She also served as a Research Assistant at Insight Hospital, where she gained clinical experience in the oncology clinic and developed a deep appreciation for the importance of counseling and an eampathetic approach to patient care.

Additionally, Nausheen has volunteered to provide care to underprivileged and uninsured populations. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and watching Netflix.
