Director's Message

Thank you for your interest in the newly accredited New York Medical College at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center Psychiatry Residency Program. We are so excited to welcome psychiatry residents to our outstanding institution! Saint Joseph’s Medical Center and its St. Vincent’s Hospital Westchester division have been providing superb clinical care to a diverse patient population since the 19th century.  We are confident that our training program will continue this tradition of clinical excellence, fulfilling our mission to train knowledgeable, highly competent, and compassionate psychiatrists who are committed to providing quality care, particularly to vulnerable populations.

Saint Joseph’s Medical Center provides the broadest array of psychiatric services in Westchester County, New York. With our depth of services and excellence in care, we are frequently approached by the county and state to start innovative new programs. In addition to our extensive inpatient and outpatient services, residents will have the opportunity to rotate through our crisis services, which include our mobile crisis team, the Westchester call center for the “988” suicide hot line and our new intensive crisis residence. As a part of a small training program, the residents will have the ability to have close contact with the faculty and participate directly in many of the hospital’s quality improvement initiatives. The program’s academic and research components will benefit from our close relationship with our sponsor, New York Medical College. The program is committed to utilizing resident feedback and hopes residents will participate in ongoing program development and improvement.

The Saint Joseph’s campus, located in Yonkers, and the St. Vincent’s campus, located in Harrison, is located 20-30 minutes north of Manhattan in lovely Westchester County. Here, you will truly be able to enjoy your time off with access to a multitude of outdoor recreational activities including our many parks and water access via Long Island Sound or the Hudson River. Just a short train ride away are all the arts and culture of New York City. Also within easy driving distance for a weekend away are other major northeast metropolitan areas, the ocean and mountains.

Our faculty members are enthusiastic and motived to begin teaching and training residents. We seek to recruit a class of well-rounded and diverse residents who are flexible and excited about being part of a developing program. We believe each resident and staff member has unique strengths and abilities and plan to create an environment where these will flourish.
