He proudly wore #15\, a number that for him symbolized “Family”: one sister and five brothers — the Kavovits. \nIn March 2021\, despite a life filled with love\, achievement\, and strong personal connections\, Rob tragically lost his battle with silent depression. His story serves as a profound reminder that mental illness can touch anyone. \nIn his honor\, Rob’s family established the 15 for Life Foundation\, a grassroots movement dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. The foundation’s mission is to equip people of all ages with the tools to recognize the signs of depression and mental illness — in themselves and in\nothers — and to encourage open\, life-saving conversations about mental health. \nJournal Dedication - Dr. Dean Harlam\, Former Director of Psychiatry\nDr. Dean Harlam received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and completed his medical education and psychiatry residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In 1982\, Dr. Harlam joined St. Vincent’s Hospital\, where he held multiple leadership roles\, including Clinical Director of the Partial Hospital Program\, Chief of Ambulatory Services\, Associate Medical Director\, Chief Medical Officer\, and Director of Psychiatry. His quiet\, friendly demeanor belied his exceptional administrative skills and his ferocious commitment to the highest standards of care for every patient. \nIn July 2025\, Dr. Harlam retired after an extraordinary 43-year career at St. Vincent’s Hospital. We honor and salute Dr. Dean Harlam for his decades of visionary leadership\, compassionate care\, and unwavering dedication to the mission of St. Vincent’s.
